Kami follows changes made outside it, saves as you go, commits from the Git view, connects to MySQL and MariaDB, and pins tabs.
Highlights
- Live filesystem watching
- The file tree, open tabs and git state follow changes made outside Kami, so a checkout in a terminal shows up without a restart. A burst of changes, like a branch switch touching hundreds of files, costs one refresh.
- Autosave by default
- Edited files save themselves after about 15 seconds idle, when the window loses focus, or when you leave a tab, as in JetBrains IDEs. Turn it off on the Editor settings tab.
- Commit from the Git view
- The WIP pane has a commit composer with a summary, a description and an Amend toggle.
- MySQL and MariaDB
- The database tools connect to both, alongside PostgreSQL and SQLite.
- Tab pinning and reordering
- Right-click a tab for close, pin and split actions, and drag tabs to reorder them.
Editor
7 changes- Autosave never formats the file;
⌘Sstill formats on save. - Autosave skips read-only views, diff and scratch panes, and files changed on disk underneath unsaved edits.
- A clean tab whose file was deleted on disk closes; a tab with unsaved edits stays open and tells you the file was deleted.
- A file changed on disk while you have unsaved edits gets a warning that
⌘Swill overwrite it. - The tab context menu has Close, Close Others, Close All to the Right, Pin, Unpin, Split with This Tab, Copy Path, Copy Relative Path and Reveal in Tree.
- Pinned tabs stay at the front of the strip and survive Close Others and Close All to the Right.
- Drag a tab to reorder it within the pinned or unpinned group.
Git view
6 changes- Commit staged changes from the WIP pane, or press
⌘↩. - The commit button says what it will do, such as “Commit changes to 3 files” or “Amend previous commit”.
- Turning on Amend fills in the last commit’s message and gives back what you had typed when you turn it off.
- An “already pushed” chip warns before you amend a commit the upstream already has.
- A branch switched in a terminal or from the sidebar refreshes the workspace and shows which branch you are on.
- Branch switches are noticed in linked worktrees and when the workspace is a subdirectory of a repository.
Database view
2 changes- Connect to MySQL and MariaDB: browse schemas, run queries, view results in the grid, and cancel a running query without dropping the session.
- Read-only connections refuse writes on MySQL and MariaDB, including DDL.
App
3 changes- The file tree rescans when files change on disk, keeping open folders and the selection.
- One click folds or unfolds a folder in the file tree.
- Watching works for workspaces opened through a symlink.
