The private alpha: Kami accounts and updates from kami-ide.com. Also refactoring, a merge resolver and interactive rebase, Vim mode, extensions, AI assistance, workspace trust, and a faster editor.

Highlights

Kami account
This build signs in to a Kami account in your browser before it opens a project. Kami Account… shows who is signed in and signs out; if kami-ide.com can’t be reached, Kami keeps working for up to a week. The device token lives in the login keychain.
Updates from kami-ide.com
Check for Updates… fetches the feed and the build from kami-ide.com with your account.
Extract and inline refactors
Extract a variable, method or constant (⌥⌘V, ⌥⌘M, ⌥⌘N), inline it back, or open Refactor This (⌃T). Every refactor is checked before it applies, can be previewed, and rolls back if a file changed underneath it.
Merge conflicts and interactive rebase in the Git view
Resolve conflicts in a three-way merge view, with a banner in the editor and a badge in the titlebar. Reorder, squash, edit and drop commits in an interactive rebase editor.
Vim mode
Modes, motions, operators, text objects, registers, ex commands and .vimrc-style rc files, with a block caret and a command line.
Extensions
Install languages, themes and plugins from Settings ▸ Extensions. Twelve theme packs and seventeen languages ship as first-party extensions. Grammars and plugins run in a separate, sandboxed helper process.
AI assistance
Connect an AI provider for a chat panel, editor actions, an inline prompt, commit messages and ghost-text completions. .aiignore keeps files out.
Workspace trust
A folder is asked about before it runs anything — language servers, linters, run configurations, database commands — and opens in safe mode until you trust it.
Faster typing
A keystroke re-reads only what it changed and paints before it colours; git status and completion replies are read off the UI thread.

Editor

12 changes
  • Soft wrap for file editors.
  • Indent guides, line-number modes, visible whitespace and an error stripe, all in Appearance settings.
  • Text encodings, byte-order marks and line endings are detected and kept; LF and UTF-8 now sit in a status bar at the bottom right.
  • Large files open in tiers: very large files open read-only in a streaming view.
  • Local history: every file keeps its own past versions, with a view to browse and restore them.
  • Rust formatting, wrapping as you type, and indent detection.
  • Coverage from LCOV and Cobertura reports, shown in the gutter.
  • ⌘/ comments JSX markup with {/* */}, and Enter after a JSX open tag adds the closing tag.
  • Code inside template-literal substitutions and HTML <script> tags is coloured, and the JavaScript in <script> tags gets language features.
  • Jinja tags in SQL files (dbt) are highlighted.
  • Fold a section from the row where it closes.
  • Native PHP formatting, and PHP’s language server installs itself like the TypeScript one.

Code intelligence

6 changes
  • Type and call hierarchy (⌃H, ⌃⌥H) in their own panel.
  • Semantic highlighting, and the usages of the symbol under the caret are highlighted.
  • Optimize Imports (⌃⌥O), optionally on save; import fixes come first in ⌥↵.
  • Rename or move a file (F6, ⇧F6) and its references are updated.
  • Diagnostics are grouped by source; eslint and ruff run as you type, clippy through rust-analyzer.
  • Find usages across a monorepo’s TypeScript servers, and go to a mapped type’s key.

Search and navigation

4 changes
  • Recent Locations (⇧⌘E) with previews of each place.
  • Search Everywhere lists folders and reveals one in the tree, and follows files added after launch.
  • ⌃⇥ cycles open tabs only.
  • A breadcrumb folder click gives the file tree the keyboard.

Run, debug and test

4 changes
  • Test adapters: discover tests, run them from the gutter, see results in a tree, rerun and debug.
  • HTTP client: run requests in .http files from the gutter.
  • A Run/Debug Configurations dialog, a guided New Run Configuration dialog, a run toolbar and one debug panel.
  • Reopen a folder in a dev container.

Git view

6 changes
  • Cherry-pick, revert and create a tag from a commit row.
  • Right-click menus in the graph, and every stash shows in the walk.
  • Stash selected files, and a right-click menu on WIP files.
  • The branch menu pulls any branch with an upstream and merges into the current one.
  • “Commit as” keeps a list of saved users, picked per repository.
  • Blame dates read MM.DD.YYYY.

Database view

2 changes
  • Snowflake shares one sign-in across a source’s tree and its console tabs.
  • Query output appears beside the results again.

Workspace

4 changes
  • Attach more folders to a workspace, as in WebStorm.
  • Opening a folder no longer walks it; excluded folders are invisible to the file watcher, with glob and .gitignore-based exclusion.
  • Settings sync through a folder or a git remote.
  • Import settings and keymaps from VS Code and JetBrains IDEs.

App

4 changes
  • Accessibility pass: VoiceOver labels, full keyboard reach, contrast and reduced motion.
  • Opt-in usage statistics and crash reports, with a crash notice and runtime log levels.
  • Dialogs hand focus back to where it was when closed with Esc.
  • Kami builds and runs on Linux, and compiles for Windows. This release ships the macOS app.
